Even the finest cigars in the world have one tiny enemy: the tobacco beetle.
These microscopic pests can sometimes be present as eggs inside tobacco leaves. Normally, they stay dormant but if cigars are stored above 70–72°F, the eggs can hatch. When that happens, the beetles chew their way through the cigar, leaving behind tiny pin-sized holes and ruined tobacco.
That’s why proper storage is so important. Keeping cigars at around 65–70% humidity and below 70°F helps prevent beetle outbreaks and protects your collection. It’s also why cigar shops and factories carefully control temperature during shipping and storage.
