The Oldest Cigar Factory Still in Operation Is in the U.S.
While many think of Cuba or the Dominican Republic when it comes to historic cigar-making, the oldest still-operating premium cigar factory in the world is actually in Tampa, Florida.
J.C. Newman Cigar Company, founded in 1895, has been crafting cigars for well over a century and still operates out of its iconic factory, El Reloj (Spanish for “The Clock”). Located in Ybor City, the building is a living piece of cigar history—complete with a working clock tower, vintage hand-rolling equipment, and even a museum open to the public.
The Newman family is now in its fourth generation, and the company continues to produce hand-rolled cigars using both traditional techniques and modern methods, honoring the legacy of American cigar craftsmanship.
So while Havana gets a lot of the spotlight, Tampa quietly holds the crown for the longest-running cigar operation in the world.
