Tobacco Leaves Are Still Sorted by Hand
Even in today’s high-tech world, premium cigars are made with leaves that are sorted entirely by hand. This is a process that takes remarkable skill and attention to detail.
After harvesting and curing, tobacco leaves are separated based on their size, thickness, color, texture, and position on the plant. Why? Because each type of leaf serves a different role in a cigar:
Ligero (top leaves) provide strength and bold flavor
Seco (middle leaves) offer aroma and balance
Volado (lower leaves) help with burn and construction
Master sorters can identify the slightest differences just by feel and appearance ensuring every cigar is built with the perfect blend. No machine can match that level of precision, which is why top-tier cigars are still built the old-fashioned way: by expert hands, leaf by leaf.
