Tobacco Seeds Are Tiny (Like Dust)
You might be surprised to learn that tobacco seeds are among the smallest in the plant world. In fact, they’re so tiny that one ounce can contain over 300,000 seeds. That is more than enough to plant an entire field of tobacco!
Because they’re so small (about the size of a grain of sand), tobacco seeds are usually sprinkled onto trays or mixed with fine sand to help distribute them evenly during planting. Farmers have to handle them with extreme care, and the seedlings are so delicate that they’re often started in shaded beds before being transplanted into the main fields.
It’s a reminder that every cigar starts with something incredibly small and fragile nurtured by hand and tradition before becoming the rich, flavorful smoke we all enjoy.
