The Color of a Cigar Doesn’t Always Predict Its Strength
One of the biggest misconceptions in the cigar world is that darker cigars are always stronger—but that’s not necessarily true.
While dark wrappers like Maduro or Oscuro may look bold and intimidating, they often have a sweeter, richer flavor due to the longer fermentation process. On the flip side, some lighter cigars with a Connecticut Shade wrapper might look mild but can pack a surprising punch depending on the blend of filler tobaccos inside.
The strength of a cigar comes more from the ligero leaves in the filler (taken from the top of the tobacco plant) than the wrapper color itself. So if you’ve been avoiding dark cigars thinking they’re too strong—you might just be missing out on some of the smoothest smokes out there.
