Weekly Interesting Cigar Facts

Cigar Rolling Was Once a Competitive Sport

In the early 20th century, cigar rolling wasn’t just a craft—it was a competitive spectacle in parts of Cuba and the U.S.!

Factories would hold rolling contests to see which torcedor could roll the most cigars in a day—without sacrificing quality. Some master rollers could crank out over 300 perfectly rolled cigars in a single shift, and contests were a way to showcase their speed, skill, and consistency.

These events often drew local crowds, and winners earned prizes, bragging rights, and higher pay. Some rollers even became minor celebrities in the cigar world, known for their technique and signature style.

Today, rolling competitions still take place at cigar festivals around the world—keeping the tradition alive and celebrating the artistry behind every stick we enjoy.
